Investments in Georgia increased by 78% in the first quarter of 2022

According to the preliminary data of the National Statistics Service of Georgia, which was published on June 9, the volume of foreign direct investment in the first quarter of 2022 amounted to 568.2 million US dollars, which is 78% more than in the same period of the previous year.

“The increase is mainly due to an increase in share capital and reinvestment rates,” the Statistics Service said in a statement.

Topping the list in terms of investment in the country is Spain with $196.1 million (34.5% of total foreign direct investment), which is associated with the acquisition of 80% of the shares of the Georgian water company Georgia Global Utilities of the Spanish company FCC Aqualia.

Spain is followed by the UK with $87.2m (15.3%)
